This much overused expression I have used as the title of this entry bears many truths. That is the essence of a lasting expression; validity, believability and durability. It stays with you, becomes part of you, and is most likely unforgettable. It can’t be removed.
Now, with that little bit of ‘Philosophy’ the real topic of this entry is in the title. The epidemic of obesity, being overweight, gaining fat, is growing at a very rapid pace in the United States. Much too rapidly. Recent studies have shown that out of the 307 million people living in the United States as of 2009, 70 million are “obese”, with 9 million being between the ages of 6-19 years old. The American people have been called the fattest population in the world by many studies.
The illustrations below clearly show the dramatic increase in the amount of obese people in the U.S. comparing 1985 to 2009.
Obesity, being overweight, has clearly been shown to be the cause of many illnesses. We all know this, yet many of us simply do not care. “Fat is beautiful”, “I’ll eat whatever I want”, or “I can’t help it, it’s genetic” are just a few of the more common justifications for obesity I hear every day. It is one of the primary enemies of living healthy and promoting a longer life. Obesity has been the target of many health institutions for many years, yet like an untreated infection it continues to grow.
I am strong fighter of obesity, but like a cunning terrorist, weight gain can attack a person from different angles. I have developed many programs to help my clients lose weight and keep it off permanently. The approach or method I use depends on the root causes of the weight gain. Becoming overweight is really the sum of several things that slows the body’s metabolism down causing the pounds to inch upward. Restoring metabolism takes time, the correct medically supervised approach, and most important weapon is the dedication and commitment from you to succeed and win that battle. I can only give you the tools, the armament, to achieve success.
YOU MUST WAGE THE WAR AND WIN!
